Libby Cowley has always felt a strong connection with the performing arts as a dancer, actor and musician as well as enjoying working creatively behind the scenes. At a young age she was writing scripts and making iMovie trailers to be premiered in the living room to friends and family. She has always prided herself on her determination, organisation and very strong work ethic which she brings to all of her projects.
In 2018, while still at high school, she stepped into the industry with work experience in post-production companies such as Soundfirm and BluePost. She got in touch directly with Australian director Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore and worked on two of her music videos for indigenous artist Thelma Plum. Having known from a young age that she wanted to become a director and create stories to take audiences out of their everyday lives, she wrote and directed her first short film in 2020 which won the ‘Best Film’ award at her school. As a director and screenwriter, her style is comedic and fantastical, with storylines using social satire and taking the extraordinary and putting it into ordinary situations.
Moving onto university at JMC Academy in 2021, Libby made it her mission to work on as many projects as possible, including features, shorts, music videos and live television. Her directorial debut music video ‘Sirens’, for Reign Maker, won ‘Best Music Video’ at the Martini Awards in 2024.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Film and TV) degree, which includes her debut short film 'Grimm & Grimmer', Libby has started up her own production company, leon st productions, working with some large international businesses such as Maxon, as well as local up-and-coming artists such as Bad Habbit.
She is currently working on producing a second feature film with OGMC Productions and looking to become a fully qualified Intimacy Coordinator. In her spare time she is volunteering for, and being employed on, a variety of other video and film projects, including working as a production assistant for Tennis Australia at the recent Australian Open.
